DIGICEL EMPLOYEES LEND A HELPING HAND
Monday, September 12th 2011 – St. George’s, Grenada: Over the last week, staff members of Digicel, Grenada’s Bigger Better Network have been participating in a community outreach initiative called “Community Involvement Week”.
In collaboration with friends and family members, Digicel Grenada staff members undertook the repainting of the St. Andrew School for Special Education. In addition to the painting of internal and external walls, staff also painted and installed new cupboards in the Kitchen area and installed shelving in the storage areas. Students were also provided with much needed school supplies such as exercise books, pencils, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, pencils and pencil cases.
By all accounts from the staff who volunteered to assist daily, the experience has been both rewarding and enlightening. “It is a wonderful experience to give back and to do so personally by getting involved in the actual work such as painting. It’s is a wonderful experience. Knowing that I am personally contributing to putting a smile on a child’s face makes it all the more rewarding,” said Digicel’s Marketing Assistant, Jannel Thomas.
Country Manager Patricia Maher speaking about the initiative says “Digicel has always shown commitment to making a difference in communities across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and I’m really pleased that our employees have embraced this opportunity to contribute their time and goodwill. I’m also happy that the principal and staff of the St. Andrew School for Special Education have accepted our invitation to assist and they have been extremely helpful”.
