DIGICEL CHAIRMAN, DENIS O’BRIEN, AWARDED HONOUR FOR SERVICES TO HAITI BY HAITIAN PRESIDENT

Monday June 27th 2011 – Kingston, Jamaica. Digicel Chairman and Founder, Denis O’Brien has been awarded the country’s highest honour by the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly.

Singled out for his commitment to Haiti over the last five years – and in particular, since the devastating January 2010 earthquake – Denis O’Brien received the National Order of Honour and Merit from the Haitian President in a ceremony in the capital Port-au-Prince last week.

Specifically citing his commitment to promoting Haiti on the international stage as an attractive investment destination, his solid support of the community and the impact Digicel has had on the telecommunications landscape by making mobile telephony available and affordable for all, President Martelly said; “Denis O’Brien has contributed so much to Haiti. His support and encouragement is invaluable to us as we come together to rebuild and reinvigorate our country and we are deeply appreciative of his commitment to Haiti and to the Haitian people.”

In accepting the honour, Denis O’Brien commented; “I am very proud to receive this honour. My personal commitment to Haiti - and that of Digicel - is heartfelt, deep seated and long term. There are better days ahead for Haiti and we are dedicated to doing all that we can to help build to a brighter future.”
